Soldering and Kit Building

The idea of having soldering techniques and kit building lessons/classes at CARA’s clubhouse might attract members to use the facility more. There should be many Elmers out there with the experience to teach this topic.

Individuals could be recommended a set of tools to bring with them to a class, along with a kit. So, really there would be very little additional resources needed by the club.

I am guessing there are many out there that would like to build a kit and not BBQ the ICs.

Maybe if enough amateurs would like this to happen and perhaps an Elmer or three would like to take on the instructor's role ...

    Hi George,

    Sounds great!

Why don't you and anyone else interested come out to the next DX Club meeting on Feb 7th, 7:15pm at the Saddletown Library. We have some 'kit builders' in the group and we can discuss your idea.  I will add the topic to our agenda for the night.

George - this is a great idea and I would be happy to share what I know. Most of my activity involves building. And if you want to extend that idea to include building RF projects other than kits and include making your own printed circuit boards, I am willing to help with that as well. PCB's are not all that hard to make. A few years ago I was reluctant to make the switch to SMD's but now that has become my preferred method. So if you want to test drive SMD building & soldering to see if you like it, we can do that too...
