The next meeting of the Calgary Amateur Radio Association will be held on November 28, 2017 at 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. The meeting will begin with a presentation by Ian Drummond, VE6IXD, with the business portion to follow,
Comparing Antenna performance using WSPR (Weak Signal Propagation Reporter)
Sometimes it doesn’t matter how well an antenna works; you put it up and it makes contacts, and that’s good. But other times it is important; you may be going to an unusual place and want to contact as many people as possible, or perhaps you are considering spending a lot of money to replace an existing antenna.
Ian will describe some recent innovations in equipment and methods that allow easy and cheap testing of antennas. Small, light and battery powered equipment makes it easy to test antennas where ever they are set-up, and the WSPRnet system of receivers provides continuous coverage all over the world.
He will talk about testing two portable antennas for use in SOTA activations on mountain tops, and how they compared to the CARA antenna farm!
